Chris Shepherd turned to photography as a means to familiarize himself with Toronto, a city he initially felt very disconected from. This exploration piqued Shepherd’s interest in urban landscapes and led to a long-running fascination with the often passed-over or under-appreciated tableaux of public metropolitan life. The reserved serenity of Shepherd's photographs is often at odds with the locations they are depicting. Shepherd captures fleeting moments in time, whether it's a brief moment of tranquility in the perpetual cycle of arrivals and departures within the subway system, or the calm zen-like vacancy in hibernating architectural space.
Chris Shepherd's next solo exhibition,Wandering, opens on January 12th, 2013 at Bau-Xi Photo.
